Alexi Carli Receives Marion Martin Award

Alexi Carli, CSP, vice president of global health and safety at UPS and a professional member of ASSE’s Georgia Chapter, received NSC’s Marion Martin Award for 2017. The award annually celebrates a woman who has excelled in the safety profession and encouraged other women along the way.

“Like Marion Martin, Alexi is a trailblazer and visionary with a long career focused on saving lives and preventing injuries,” says NSC’s Kathy Bernstein. “We are excited to recognize everything she has done to empower women to achieve safety excellence.”

Alexi Carli has worked for UPS for 39 years. She has spent 29 of those years in safety, working her way from up from district health and safety director. Carli was instrumental in creating the organization’s safety culture, efforts that have resulted in an 84% reduction in lost time due to injury, and a 59% drop in vehicle crash frequency.

Throughout her career, Carli has actively mentored other women and helped them advance in their careers. She established a women’s group for female UPS employees in the 1980s, worked with DOT in 1999 to highlight women in transportation, and was one of the original members of the UPS Women’s Leadership Development Business Resource Group. Currently, 45% of the 510 health, safety and wellness professionals at UPS are female.

Carli is a member of ASSE’s Management and International practice specialties, and the Women in Safety Engineering Common Interest Group.
