ASSE Adds Designations to Its Professional Membership Qualifications

Certified professional ergonomist (CPE), certified human factors professional (CHFP) and certified user experience professional (CUXP) designations have been added to the qualification requirements for ASSE professional members. SH&E professionals with a CPE, CHFP or CUXP designation (along with a bachelor’s degree and 5 years’ SH&E experience) can become a professional member. Members can reclassify their membership online or contact customer service at (847) 699-2929.

To obtain professional member status with ASSE, members must have one of the following certifications:

  • CSP
  • CIH

or, one of the following certifications/licenses, along with a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of SH&E experience:

  • P.E.
  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
  • Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA)
  • Chartered Member-IOSH (CMIOSH)
  • Chartered Fellow-IOSH (CFIOSH)
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS)
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse-Specialist (COHN-S)
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Certified Safety Health Manager (CSHM)
  • Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE),
  • Certified Human Factors Professional (CHFP)
  • Certified User Experience Professional (CUXP)

or must have a doctorate level degree in an SH&E field and 5 years’ SH&E experience.
