ASSE Foundation Awards Record Amount of Scholarships, Grants

More than 100 students and ASSE members will receive a record sum of scholarship and grant money from ASSE Foundation this year.

The Foundation awarded $281,750 in scholarships to 90 students pursuing OSH degrees at 48 universities throughout the country, as well as more than $20,000 in professional education grants to 26 ASSE members pursuing continuing education. This year’s scholarship and grant awards surpass last year’s record of $275,000.

“We do this because safety matters,” says Foundation Chair Darryl C. Hill, Ph.D., CSP. “We want to play a key role in developing tomorrow’s OSH leaders. . . . It’s only because of the generosity of our partners that we can provide such valuable resources.”

Corporate donors that support the scholarship program include Applications International, Bechtel, Board of Certified Safety Professionals, FabEnco, ISNetworld, Liberty Mutual, Parsons, ProcessMAP, SafeStart, Southern Company, Texas Safety Foundation, UPS and WorkCare. United Rentals is a new contributor this year.

“The Foundation thanks the ASSE community for its generous display of support,” Hill says. “Thanks to our donors, we were able to increase scholarship and grant funding by 10% in 2017. We are proud to be able to help so many pursue their dreams of higher education in occupational safety and health.”

ASSE Foundation has awarded more than $2.3 million in scholarships and grants to students and OSH professionals over the past 27 years. View the Foundation’s list of this year’s recipients and read ASSE’s press release to learn more.
