ASSE Foundation Distributes Record Grants & Scholarships in 2018

ASSE Foundation (ASSEF) is celebrating continuing education with a record distribution of scholarships and grants. More than $375,000 in scholarships and grants were awarded to 117 individuals who are pursuing studies in the OSH profession thanks to generous donations from the ASSE community.

“The Foundation is highly appreciative of the ASSE member community for its tremendous support,” says ASSEF’s Dave Crowley. “Thanks to all of our donors, we were able to increase scholarship and grant funding by an incredible 24% this year. We are thrilled to help so many people realize their goals of continuing education in the safety and health profession.”

When making a donation to ASSEF, you support individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. ASSEF is proud to support these safety pros as they start or continue their careers.

Scholarship Recipients Thank Donors

“For the past 18 months, I have worked very hard to pursue my education while raising two young boys (1.5 and 3 years old) as a single mother. I have been accepted to the University of Iowa to earn an M.S.P.H. in Industrial Hygiene. Thank you for your generosity, and for your belief in me and my future. I hope that one day I will be able to pay this forward in some way by helping other students achieve their goals.”

$10,000 Liberty Mutual Scholarship

Western Carolina University, Environmental Health

“This May, I will be the first in my family to graduate from college. My family lives well beyond the poverty line, and we have lived in neighborhoods where all you see is drugs, gangs and violence. It is very challenging to have inspirations when you do not know anyone who knows the college process. The award has confirmed by belief in myself. My purpose is to give to my community and help those people in poverty. I know how it feels not having food or money for new clothes. I will never forget this blessing.”

$5,250 UPS Diversity Scholarship

California State University Fullerton, Health Science, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Advising

“I wanted you to know that your scholarship is not just aiding a student, but my family.  This past year they have had to sacrifice their activities, ice dancing and gymnastics, fewer outings and more imagination. My academics and work are not only to better myself, but also to better my family.  They are whom I live and work for. Thank you. This is a gift I can never repay.”
