ASSE Leading U.S. Efforts on International Safety Management Standard

Building collapses, factory explosions and catastrophic fires in recent years have focused greater attention on the need for improved workplace safety worldwide. International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is seeking to build on that interest with the proposed ISO 45001 standard, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. ASSE is administrator of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Project Committee (PC) 283, which is spearheading the standard’s development. ASSE is recruiting organizations to sit on the U.S. TAG and help draft the U.S. position on the standard. ASSE is also secretariat of ANSI Z10-2012, American National Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, which the U.S. TAG has identified as being a critical standard to be considered and referenced in the proposed ISO 45001 standard.

The Society has published a Tech Brief that provides an update on the activities of the U.S. TAG and PC 283. It also contains links to video and slide presentations and related resources. To learn more about joining the U.S. TAG, contact ASSE’s Tim Fisher.
