ASSE Offers Student Travel Award to NOIRS 2015

2015NOIRSlogoFrom May 19 to May 21, 2015, leading occupational injury researchers will gather in Kingwood, WV, for the sixth National Occupational Injury Research Symposium (NOIRS 2015). This year’s theme is “Advancing Occupational Injury Research Through Integration and Partnership.” The agenda will include concurrent sessions and poster presentations describing research studies, methods and findings related to traumatic occupational injuries. The event is being sponsored by NIOSH, ASSE, Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety, Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research, and National Safety Council. ASSE Senior Vice President Tom Cecich, CSP, CIH, will join NIOSH Director John Howard, M.D., OSHA Administrator David Michaels, Ph.D., M.P.H., and NSC President Deborah Hersman, M.S. for the opening plenary session.

In addition, ASSE and the ASSE Foundation are sponsoring one student travel award worth $600. This award will be given to the graduate student who authors an outstanding paper on “The Role of the Safety Professional in Workplace Injury Prevention Research.” The award aims to help the recipient pay for travel costs to attend NOIRS 2015. to be eligible, entrants must be enrolled in a degree-granting, graduate-level program of study in a field related to occupational safety. The winner must also agree to present the paper at NOIRS 2015 and to submit it for publication consideration to Professional Safety. Submissions are due by close of business Feb. 27, 2015.
