ASSE Provides Insight on Federal OSH Developments

To help members better understand recent OSHA developments ASSE’s federal representative Adele Abrams, Esq., CMSP, has written two RegBriefs. The May 2016 RegBrief presents an analysis of the final e-recordkeeping rule that OSHA published in May 2016. The brief breaks down key requirements and deadlines, explains how OSHA plans to use the employer data it collects, and summarizes reactions from business and industry groups. The June 2016 RegBrief explains how businesses and safety professionals will be affected by OSHA’s late-term efforts to ramp up its enforcement and continues to focus on temporary worker safety.

Abrams also provided an analysis of the recent increase in OSHA and MSHA fines. “The maximum OSHA penalty—applicable to citations classified as “willful” or “repeat”—will rise on Aug. 1, 2016, from the current $70,000 ceiling to a new high of $124,709,” Abrams reports, noting that this is the first increase implemented in many years.
