As ASSE continues its global growth, the Society is reaching out to the occupational safety and health (OSH) communities in many countries. Recent efforts include a drive to form a chapter in Dubai. ASSE Ambassador Jitu Patel met with Dr. Mariam Al-Marshoudi, founder and CEO of the First Gulf Pharmaceutical Center in Dubai, along with Dr. Sunil Manajrekar, CEO, Sanbrook Quality Consultancy, to discuss ASSE and its mission, and to explain how ASSE could help improve safety in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates in general.

Al-Marshoudi agreed to promote the idea of forming an ASSE chapter in Dubai and subsequently convinced His Royal Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (ruling family of Dubai) to become the chapter’s sponsor, which will allow it to work under his patronage. Furthermore, His Royal Highness Sheikh Sultan of Abu Dhabi also agreed to support the chapter’s formation. According to Patel, the royal support will encourage OSH professionals in Dubai to join ASSE. To further boost the momentum, Patel conducted a technical symposium and included a brief presentation, “Why Join ASSE.” Patel expects the chapter to be up and running in the near future.

While in Dubai, Patel also met with other executives, including Anil Dani, director, City Falcon Trading LLC; Joseph Varghese, manager, geotechnical, Fugro Middle East; and Nutankumar Manvatkar, vice president, fire and rescue, Ports Customs and Free Zone Corp. Patel expects all of them to join ASSE and promote the formation of the Dubai Chapter. Patel also reported high interest in ASSE’s Women in Safety Engineering (WISE) Common Interest Group among the groups he met with during his visits.
