ASSE RegBrief on OSHA’s e-Recordkeeping Rule

ASSERegBrief_0516On May 11, 2016, OSHA issued a final rule that will require employers in high-hazard industries to send their injury and illness data (which they must already collect) for posting on the agency’s website. OSHA says that public disclosure of work injury data will encourage employers to increase their efforts to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses. ASSE did not support the proposed rulemaking when it was issued in 2014, and Society President Mike Belcher, CSP, echoed those comments in his statement following OSHA’s announcement of the final rule.

To help members better understand what the rule will mean to them and their employers/clients, ASSE has published a RegBrief that presents an analysis of the final rule. Written by Adele Abrams, Esq., CMSP, ASSE’s federal representative. the brief breaks down key requirements and deadlines, explains how OSHA plans to use the employer data it collects, and summarizes reactions from business and industry groups.
