ASSE Releases New Fall Protection & Construction Standards, Tech Briefs Available

ASSE logo RBGASSE has released five new standards that affect fall protection and construction and demolition operations. Tech Briefs are available for each standard as well.

ANSI/ASSE Z359.11-2014 Safety Requirements for Full Body Harnesses: This standard establishes requirements for the performance, design, marking, qualification, instruction, training, test methods, inspection, use, maintenance and removal from service of full body harnesses (FBH). FBHs are used for fall arrest, positioning, travel restraint, suspension and/or rescue applications for users within the capacity range of 130 to 310 lb. Click here for the Tech Brief. 

ANSI/ASSE Z359.14-2014 Safety Requirements for Self-Retracting Devices for Personal Fall Arrest & Rescue Systems: This standard establishes requirements for the performance, design, qualification testing, markings and instructions, inspections, maintenance and storage, and removal from service of self-retracting devices (SRDs), including self-retracting lanyards, self-retracting lanyards with integral rescue capability and self-retracting lanyards with leading-edge capability. This standard establishes requirements for SRDs intended for use in personal fall arrest or rescue systems for authorized persons within the capacity range of 130 to 310 lb. ANSI/ASSE Z359.15-2014 Safety Requirements for Single Anchor Lifelines and Fall Arresters for Personal Fall Arrest Systems: This standard establishes requirements for the design criteria, qualification testing (performance requirements), marking and instructions, user inspections, maintenance and storage and removal from service of single anchor lifelines and fall arresters for users within the capacity range of 130 to 310 lb. ANSI/ASSE A10.24-2014 Roofing Safety Requirements for Low-Sloped Roofs: This standard establishes safe operating practices for the installation, maintenance and removal of membrane roofing that is seamed or seamless on low-sloped roofs with a maximum slope of four and 12. These types of roofs include, but are not necessarily limited to, hot and cold built-up roofing, single-ply roofing, polyurethane foam roofing, liquid-type roofing and modified bitumens. This standard does not apply to composition or wood shingles, slate, tile and metal roofs that are normally installed on roofs with slopes four and 12 or greater. Click here for the Tech Brief.

ANSI/ASSE A10.44-2014 Control of Energy Sources (Lockout/Tagout) for Construction & Demolition Operations: This standard establishes performance objectives for procedures for the protection of personnel and property in, on or around machines or equipment during repair, maintenance, operation, installation and associated activities from injury due to unexpected startup or release of stored energy from the equipment or system/process or induced energy.
