ASSE Snake River Chapter Cohosts Annual Safety Fest of the Great Northwest

The 2013 Safety Fest of the Great Northwest, cosponsored by URS and its partners including ASSE’s Snake River Chapter, was held January 22-25 at the Boise, ID, URS office complex. The event featured safety training, health screenings and a safety fair.

This year’s event drew in more than 900 attendees from across the region. With more than 70 sessions on topics such as first aid/CPR, fall protection, lockout/tagout and welding safety, the event had something to offer safety professionals at every level.

New this year, Safety Fest offered courses in logging safety, drill rig safety and sustainability business practices, as well as personal health trainings and screenings through local hospital programs. Sessions included skin cancer screenings, men’s health screenings, a mobile mammogram unit and an 8-hour class on smoking cessation.

The 2-day safety fair offered attendees the chance to discuss improvements in safety equipment and best practices and learn about new products and tools from 44 vendors and public agencies. In addition, professional organizations, including the Snake River chapter, and agencies were available to discuss resources for outside support in safety and health programs.

“This event represents our commitment to building a safety culture and in extending that culture to the communities we serve,” says Rick Callor, Director of Safety Training for URS Energy & Construction. “Safety Fest is a forum where individuals can gain useful, practical information that influences their workplace safety practices and their personal health.”
