ASSE Welcomes New Student Section

Earlier this year, the Greater Detroit Chapter partnered with the University of Findlay, in Findlay, OH, to form a new student section. In the beginning of the fall 2014 semester, Carl Granger and Pat Fisher of the Greater Detroit Chapter and Darryl C. Hill, 2010-2011 ASSE Society President and ASSE Fellow, joined university students to discuss the benefits of ASSE membership including opportunities for networking, education and career information.

The new student members have already begun planning events, fundraisers, guest lectures, volunteering activities and tours including a tour of the Marathon Petroleum Co.’s pipeline that took place at the end of October. In November, four students from the University of Findlay Student Section were selected to attend ASSE’s Future Safety Leaders Conference in Chicago, IL. Those students are planning to present learning outcomes at upcoming meetings so that every member can benefit from the conference.

Future plans include discussions on interview techniques, using social media and finding career opportunities.
