Bakersfield Chapter Celebrates NAOSH Week

During the first full week of May, ASSE, Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support (Threads of Life) and the Government of Canada join together to celebrate North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week, which runs May 6-12 this year. The goal of NAOSH Week is to educate employers, employees, partners and the public on the importance of preventing injury and promoting safety and health in the workplace.

These posters were included in the contest for the Bakersfield Chapter.

This year, NAOSH Week encourages attendees to promote the week through newsletters and social media (#NAOSHWeek), by working with local businesses and by raising the NAOSH Week flag.

A local chapter has joined in on the fun by hosting its own competition to celebrate NAOSH Week. ASSE’s Bakerfield Chapter hosts an annual “Safety on the Job” Poster Contest, which it promotes through flyers and a call for entry on a television commercial. Last year’s poster contest ran from Feb. 1 to April 28 and raised awareness for safety in the workplace through posters created by children. Check out the chapter’s 2017 news feature, which ran on a local NBC affiliate network, for some ideas to get started on your own campaign.
