Be an Informed Voter in the Society’s 2018 Elections

Candidate information, including biographies and platform statements for all candidates and video statements for Board of Director candidates, is available on the ASSE elections web page. If you do not have access to the web page, call Kim McDowell at (847) 699-2929 to request copies of these materials.

This year, ASSE members will have an opportunity to vote for senior vice president; director-at-large; vice president, finance; vice president, practices and standards; and vice president, professional development. Members in select regions, practice specialties and common interest groups will also elect regional vice presidents, area directors and assistant administrators.

The members elected to office will help focus the organization’s collective energy and will help ASSE pursue its strategic initiatives and advance the OSH profession. Your votes validate that direction and give it strength. That is why it is  important to learn everything about the candidates. As 2011-12 ASSE President Terrie S. Norris, CSP, ARM, CPSI, said in her February 2012 President’s Message, “[It] is our duty to vote. . . . And it’s not just the act of voting that is important. We need to cast informed votes.”

As 2017-18 ASSE President Jim Smith, M.S., CSP, explains, the online voting process is quick, and he views voting as an excellent way for members to influence the organization’s future. “ASSE has a tremendous impact on the OSH community. What we are doing now will help ensure that the Society is an everlasting organization,” he says. “These future leaders are dedicated to helping us continue to make this organization better. Please take the time to review the candidates’ qualifications, then vote for those you think are most qualified to lead our Society in the future.”

To become informed, members can visit the elections website to read candidates’ biographies and platform statements. In these statements, the candidates share their ideas on ASSE’s direction and future.

Voting begins March 1 and ends March 31. Ballots will be sent electronically. To ensure that your e-mail address is correct, visit your account page and confirm your contact information. You may also call Customer Service at (847) 699-2929.
