Jeremy Bethancourt, Drive Smart Arizona to Host Distracted Driving Awareness Summit

When it comes to distracted driving in Arizona, ASSE member Jeremy Bethancourt remains focused.

Drive Smart Arizona (DSA), a coalition cofounded by Bethancourt with a goal to raise public awareness of the implications from distracted driving, will cohost Distracted Driving Awareness Summit on Jan. 25, 2017, at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in Phoenix, AZ. The event will have booths with educational materials, public demonstrations and presentations made by people who have experienced tragedy caused by distracted driving.

In March, Bethancourt led an initiative through DSA to post billboards across Arizona that urge drivers to stop texting and driving.

Arizona is one of only four U.S. states that does not ban all drivers from sending text messages while driving. According to state laws, only school bus drivers are prohibited from texting while driving.

Bethancourt is the Government Affairs Chair of ASSE’s Arizona Chapter. He is member of two ASSE common interest groups, Safety Professionals and the Latino Workforce and Women in Safety Engineering, and a member of ASSE’s Construction Practice Specialty.
