C.Kannan Recognized for Efforts to Improve Safety in India

Kannan-IndiaChithiraputhiran Kannan, deputy chief engineer, health and safety, Chennai Metro Rail, and a member of ASSE’s India Chapter, recently received a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practices. The award is part of an annual campaign to as an recognize, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world.

For Kannan, 2015 has been an award-filled year. Earlier this year, World Safety Organization presented him the Award for Achievement in Scientific Research and Development. That award was in recognition of his work in India to cultivate “standards that have contributed significantly to the safety interface between the system and the operator of the product and the consumer.” According to Chennai Metro Rail, Kannan is the the first candidate from India who has received this award. He was also named the ASSE India Chapter’s Safety Professional of the Year, he received the DL Shah/ASSE Safety Award during the Society’s Safety India 2015 conference, and he received several other safety-related awards from organizations in India.
