Darryl C. Hill Honored as ASSE Fellow

SU_2013Fellow_DarrylHill_smDarryl C. Hill, Ph.D., CSP, a professional member of the Greater Detroit Chapter, was honored as an ASSE Fellow during Safety 2013. The honor of Fellow is the most prestigious honor granted by ASSE, recognizing professional members who have displayed lifelong leadership and excellence in the occupational safety and health community.

With 24 years’ experience in the SH&E profession, Hill is currently executive director H&S global employee relations for Johnson Controls. At the time of his Fellow petition, he was vice president, safety and health, for ABB Inc., where he was directly responsible for the comprehensive SH&E program for multiple site locations in North America encompassing more than 25,000 employees and contractors. Prior to this, he was SH&E director, Flexible Automation Division, ABB Inc. Hill has been an adjunct assistant professor at Oakland University since 1996, and has served on the university’s Occupational Safety & Health Program Industry Advisory Board since 2004. He is also an OSH program evaluator for ABET.

Hill has a long and storied volunteer history at every level of Society leadership, including serving as 2010-11 ASSE President. He is currently a member of the Society’s Nominations and Elections Committee, and has sponsored more than 280 new members. He is a member of six practice specialties: Academics, Construction, Environmental, Management, Manufacturing and Mining. He is also a member of the Blacks in Safety Engineering Common Interest Group. Hill is editor of Construction Safety Management and Engineering, published by ASSE; he also authored two chapters.

Hill has had a distinguished career as an SH&E leader and educator. Among his personal and professional accomplishments, Hill led the implementation of a safety and health management system to OHSAS 18001 standards, leading his company to earn OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs Star/SHARP awards for exemplary safety and health performance, as well as being named one of America’s Safest Companies for 2012 by EHS Today.
