Drive Smart Arizona Distracted Driving Summit Draws Near

On Jan. 24, 2018, the Drive Smart Arizona Coalition will present its second annual Arizona Distracted Driving Awareness Summit at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in Phoenix, AZ. Cofounded by ASSE member Jeremy Bethancourt, the goal of Drive Smart Arizona and the summit is to focus on reducing and eliminating the growing crisis of distracted driving in the community, according to the group.

This year’s event will feature a discussion on Arizona’s new distracted driving prohibition for new drivers and its potential impact on drivers of all ages. The summit will also feature lectures, presentations and panels on topics such as education, enforcement, engagement and social change. Vendors will also be on site.

Last year’s inaugural event was attended by nearly 400 people including municipal law enforcement, school teachers and more than 60 students (ages 7 to 17) and many others, according to Bethancourt.

Bethancourt is the Government Affairs and Transportation and Roadway Pedestrian Safety Section (TARPS Section) Chair of ASSE’s Arizona Chapter. He was also recently named ASSE’s 2017 Edgar Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year.
