ASSE’s Greater Baton Rouge Chapter will be offering the new Lawrence Mauerman scholarship through the ASSE Foundation designated to the Southeastern Louisiana University (SELU) Fall 2017 OSH Grads Program. This scholarship was made possible by the efforts of the chapter’s Golf Tournament Committee, which raised funds through the chapter’s annual golf tournament.

The tournament funds all of the chapter’s scholarships and professional development programs. In addition to the SELU scholarship, the amount of money raised allowed the chapter to establish a new scholarship in the name of a long-time SELU OSH professor, Lawrence Mauerman.

According to the chapter, the Lawrence Mauerman Scholarship will be seeded with $36,000, and both scholarships will be supported annually by the golf tournament proceeds.

ASSE President Jim Smith, M.S., CSP, accepted the check for $36,000 at the chapter’s 60th anniversary gala on Dec. 7, 2017.

The Lawrence Mauerman Scholarship became the second scholarship that the chapter funds for students in the Louisiana area, the second being the Don Jones Scholarship for students of Louisiana State University.
