Greater Detroit Chapter Teams Up With ABB Robotics for Fire Prevention Event

In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, ASSE’s Greater Detroit Chapter, along with ABB Robotics in Auburn Hills, MI, and the Auburn Hills Fire Department, hosted the “Fire Prevention Fun Day” event to educate the community about the importance of fire prevention.

Greater Detroit Chapter members provided stickers, games, prizes for children and raffle prizes. The Auburn Hills Fire Department demonstrated how firefighters use the Jaws of Life to extract an individual from a car, and brought other firefighting equipment for attendees to see such as fire trucks, HazMat truck, a lift to suspend people from a ladder and a smokehouse. ABB Inc. sponsored the site, food and coloring books. In addition, ABB  Inc. displayed a robotic arm that was programmed to draw pictures of a fire truck for the children.

ABB Inc.’s robotic arm drew pictures of a fire truck for event attendees.

With the theme of “Two Ways Out,” the event was made possible with the help of volunteers from all of the organizations involved, including members of the ASSE Student Section at Oakland University. Despite the rain, a steady flow of attendees came through and learned a little more about fire prevention and planning in case of a fire, as well as about ASSE and its Greater Detroit Chapter.

“The first Fire Prevention Fun Day really seemed to turn up the heat in Auburn Hills, MI, on what started as a rainy and cool fall day. It was a truly fantastic community event; our local ASSE Chapter was able to partner with ABB and the Auburn Hills Fire Department to bring a fun and family oriented event to residents of Auburn Hills and the surrounding area,” says Greater Detroit Chapter Treasurer Carl Granger. “I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s Fire Prevention Fun Day . . . although hopefully the weather will cooperate and help us really bring the heat next year.”
