Innovation in Occupational Safety Management Award Applications Now Open

Innovation emerged from many OSH professionals in 2016. Individuals who influenced creative solutions to managing worker safety should submit an application for the ASSE Award for Innovation in Occupational Safety Management, which is sponsored by Cintas. Applications are due April 7, 2017.

Entries will be evaluated for their overall innovativeness and effectiveness with the following weighted factors:

    • 20% – ­Range of application of the innovation in managing safety;
    • 40% – Management benefits of the innovation;
    • 40% – Safety benefits attributable to the innovation.

The award is open to ASSE members and nonmembers. Applicants must complete the application form (online applications preferred) and provide a description of the innovation, biographical information and references. The details involved in each criterion can be found in the application. Individuals may submit up to two applications.

The winner will receive a plaque and $3,000. Honorable mention recipients will receive $500. Applicants will be notified by May 17, 2017.

The award will be presented at Safety 2017 in Denver, CO, this June. ­

Past Winners

  • 2016: Steven Trammell, P.E., CSP, CHMM, a principal consultant with BSI, for an international risk control guidance document on energetic materials.
  • 2015: Jack Reiter for his Machine Safety Management software.
  • 2014: Ali Hasan Al-Failakawi for implementing a road safety program that helped reduce motor vehicle accidents.
