John Sullivan Receives FDSOA Lifetime Service Award

At Fire Department Safety Officer Association‘s (FDSOA) joint session, Apparatus Symposium and Safety Forum, the organization recognized John (Jack) Sullivan, CSP, CFPS, for his contributions to roadway safety for the emergency services.

Sullivan, a member of ASSE’s Colonial Virginia Chapter and director of training at Emergency Responder Safety Institute, became the 2018 winner of the annual Dave Dodson Lifetime Service Award.

“Jack Sullivan has been a member of FDSOA for many years and served as trainer and instructor in highway incident safety to thousands and thousands of fire and EMS personnel across the country,” said Richard Maddox, chair of the FDSOA board of directors, in announcing the award. “He is passionate and committed to keeping emergency personnel safe while operating at highway incidents.”

Upon accepting the honor, Sullivan explained that he views distracted, drunk and drowsy drivers as the biggest hazards on roadways. “Our training never included the fact that drivers would not be looking out the windshield,” he said.

Sullivan served as a firefighter and EMS provider for 25 years throughout Pennsylvania and Virginia. He joined MC Innovations in 2001 as the managing partner of Loss Control Innovations.
