Meet ASSE’s Newest Fellows: Fay Feeney & Gary Lopez

ASSE has bestowed the honor of Fellow on two longtime members, Fay Feeney, CSP, ARM, and C. Gary Lopez, CSP, each of whom has made significant contributions to the OSH profession throughout their distinguished careers.

“Fay and Gary are highly deserving of this special designation,” says ASSE President and Fellow Tom Cecich, CSP, CIH.

Feeney has been involved in workplace safety for nearly 40 years and has been an ASSE member in 1979. She is a founding member of ASSE’s Women in Safety Engineering Common Interest Group and served as chair of the ASSE Foundation. Feeney is CEO of Risk For Good, which advises corporate leaders on governing emerging risks for sustainable business strategies. In her work, she emphasizes a people-first culture that aligns with investor interest in human capital and sustainability. “Fay has been instrumental in fostering a culture that promotes diverse thought and membership,” says Michael Murray, a past chair of the ASSE Foundation. “She has influenced the lives of so many young professionals.” 2013-14 ASSE President and Fellow Kathy A. Seabrook, CSP, CFIOSH, EurOSHM, says Feeney is a tremendous collaborator. “Fay is an innovator, relationship builder, problem solver, motivator and mentor who is willing to stretch others to reach their goals.” Feeney is a professional member of ASSE’s Los Angeles Chapter and a member of the Society’s Consultants and Risk Management/Insurance practice specialties.

Lopez is area vice president for Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services. An ASSE member since 1977, Lopez is chair of ASSE’s Government Affairs Committee and previously chaired the Standards Development Committee. He has long promoted a holistic approach to managing risk. “Since I’ve known Gary, he’s worked diligently to integrate safety into the management fabric of his employers,” says C.A. “Alex” Scott, a professional member of ASSE’s South Florida Chapter. “He understands that safety goes beyond just focusing on employee injuries.” Lopez is experienced in all aspects of OSH, including building workplace safety culture and demonstrating how managing risk financially benefits an organization. “Gary is the consummate safety professional,” says ASSE Fellow George Pearson. “He’s an expert in his field, showing meticulous technical prowess.” Lopez is a professional member of ASSE’s South Florida Chapter and a member of the Society’s Management Practice Specialty.
