Meet Chris Vochoska: ASSE’s 2016 Member-Get-A-Member Grand Prize Winner

chris-vochoska_mgamChris Vochoska, CSP, an EHS training advisor at Aera Energy LLC and a professional member of ASSE’s Bakersfield Chapter, is the grand prize winner in ASSE’s 2016 Member-Get-A-Member campaign. His name was drawn from more than 1,000 entries received by this year’s program. Vochoska will receive a complimentary registration to Safety 2017 in Denver, CO, three nights’ hotel accommodations for the conference and a $250 AMEX gift card.

Society Update recently spoke with him about his ASSE membership.

SU: Are you excited about the opportunity to attend Safety 2017 in Denver, CO, this June?

Chris: I am overwhelmed to be the grand prize winner. Budgets are tight in my industry. I attended Safety 2012 in Denver and the location is great. I am also looking forward to new OSH training ideas to incorporate into my classes.

SU: You have been a member of ASSE since 1995. Why did you initially join?

Chris: A colleague introduced me to this group of friendly, knowledgeable people doing some of the same things I was. I initially joined to reduce my research time on the broad range of issues I was trying to get up to speed on in my job. I found this group of people also had solutions that saved me from reinventing the wheel. I plugged into ASSE and began to help serve others as well.

SU: What are the biggest benefits you receive as a member?

Chris: I have developed vocationally because some of the best training ideas that I use in my classes come from the amazing sessions on OSH training presented at ASSE conferences. ASSE has also benefitted me professionally. Active participation at the chapter and Society level has taught me about leadership, influence and technology (from some very sharp and caring members).

SU: Why do you refer your colleagues to ASSE?

Chris: I like to use the acronym NJPD: networking, jobs and professional development.

SU: What would you say to other members about the Member-Get-A-Member program?

Chris: It is so easy. Test the process first with your own e-mail address. You will see what your colleague will receive and you can fine tune your message before sending it. Then, every time you think about or meet someone who could benefit from joining, you are ready to go.
