Richard Ecord Promoted to Principal of GZA

Richard EcordRichard Ecord Jr., CSP, CIH, a member of ASSE’s Greater Boston Chapter, has been promoted to associate principal of GZA, a geotechnical and environmental consulting firm.

“GZA really does place a lot of emphasis on health and safety,” Ecord says, “which is not always typical in the engineering consulting world.”

“I’m very happy and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as a mentor to some of our staff who have interest in the safety profession, especially with younger staff, who may still be trying to decide what focus they would like in their career,” Ecord tells ASSE. “Presenting safety professionally and having them see a company that demonstrates safety as important is a great way to encourage them to learn more.”

In addition to engaging GZA’s young staff members, Ecord says he hopes to advance the safety profession in his new role by bringing safety professionals’ skills into companies in non-safety areas. “I’ve long believed that some of the skills safety professionals hone over their careers can be very helpful to companies in non-safety areas, and that leveraging those can be key to advancing the profession and people’s careers,” he says. “Risk management, training and learning, and employee engagement are just a few of those areas. Expanding our expertise into other areas and helping companies take a fresh look in certain areas is a way to both help our companies thrive and provide expanded opportunities for safety professionals.”

Prior to his new role, Ecord was the corporate environmental, health and safety director at GZA and has been with the company since 2013. Ecord holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Delta State University.
