Two Members Named 2013 Outstanding Safety Educator

The William E. Tarrants Outstanding Safety Educator of the Year Award is one of ASSE’s most prestigious honors, recognizing exceptional educators who show the highest level of achievement in SH&E teaching, scholarship and commitment to ASSE. This year’s recipients are Hamid Fonooni and Richard Sesek.

SU_Hamid Fonooni Hamid Fonooni, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Occupational Safety Program at East Carolina University. His research areas include occupational safety and health, leadership and scholarship and strategic planning. A former Academics Practice Specialty administrator, Fonooni won the ASSE Eastern Carolina Chapter Outstanding Volunteer Service Award in 2012 and the Academics COPS Award in 2005.





SU_SesekRichard Sesek, Ph.D., CSP, CPE, is an assistant professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at Auburn University. He is director of occupational injury prevention research training within the department’s Occupational Safety and Ergonomics/Injury Prevention Program. A member of the ASSE Alabama Chapter, he received the 20-year Service Award in 2012 and has been recognized for sponsoring 84 members since 1981.
