UIC Student Section Takes Safety Message to Local Community

ASSE’s University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Student Section, part of the Greater Chicago Chapter, recently shared the safety message to community area kids with the help of the ASSE Safety Suitcase. The Safety Suitcase is an informational tool that can be used for reaching out to schools and communities to talk about the occupational SH&E profession.

The event was part of the Family Science Expo held at the Des Plaines Public Library, Des Plaines, IL, and allowed section members to give a presentation, offer safety tips for kids and demonstrate various types of PPE, while the library provided safety-related books to children and their parents. Participants learned that safety goes beyond wearing hard hats and eye protection. They learned about some of the different safety careers they might pursue to help provide a safe environment for workers.
